The advantage of building things out in 3D software is to understand the relationships of the parts to the whole. The rendering output provides an example of the overall vision but it still takes the work to get there. Drawing, sketching, redrawing, resketching are part of a process of design refinement. One does not replace the other but all inform each other. Technology does not replace a skillset but does aid it.
